WE DECIDED TO ADOPT in January 2014. We hadn’t really spoken about having children before that, other than maybe when we’d been looking after friends’ children.

So we went to an information evening and that was great, especially because we had some concerns about being two men wanting to adopt. I don’t think we really had a sense of how common it is. But the woman we spoke to was casual, telling us we “weren’t exactly trailblazers”.
