IF ALL THE brouhaha around the return of Top Gear had happened 20 years ago, the young me would’ve hated it. I would have dismissed the show as white, heterosexual Western maleness at its worst.

The more pragmatic me —having hit middle age — is beginning to feel strangely nostalgic for both it and the men to whom Jeremy Clarkson gave good voice, good gear stick, good Stig.
