Forrest Goodluck
Making his big-screen debut in 2015’s Oscar-winning The Revenant, Forrest Goodluck braved gruelling, sub-zero filming conditions, a knife-wielding Tom Hardy (for cinematic purposes, of course) and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Method acting — raw bison liver anyone? But that movie was a breeze compared with the young Native American actor’s latest project, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, in which he is plunged into the murky, morally incomprehensible, but horribly real, world of conversion therapy.
The bigoted belief that LGBT+ people are sick and can be cured, that sexual orientation and gender identity can be fixed, is a regrettably relevant one. Mere months ago, the UK’s largestever LGBT survey revealed that, from a pool of 108,000 respondents, two per cent had received treatment, while a further five per cent had been offered it. The results prompted Theresa May and her government to announce plans to end the practice altogether.
