I can be tricky to navigate through the world of healthy eating and living – after all, food trends come and go quicker than buses. Thankfully, outside of all the chaos is Amelia Freer, one of the UK’s most trusted nutritional therapists. Treating famous names from Victoria Beckham to Boy George, and with a wealth of qualifications under her belt, it’s her no-frills approach to health that sets her apart from the rest. Refreshingly, home-cooked food is at the core of her ethos – there’s no restrictive diet culture here – simply nourishing meals that make you feel great. With her new book, Simply Good For You, now on sale and full to the brim with recipes that will fuel your body, she tell us why 2020 is the year to make better choices about how and what you eat.
I have always enjoyed food, but it was not until I realised how powerful good nutrition can be in terms of health and wellness that I developed a real love for it. Now, it is pretty much all I think about, talk about and do. After suffering with a number of unexplained health symptoms, a kind friend mentioned to me that I might want to look at my diet as a potential solution. She told me about the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION), where I had a consultation that radically changed my health – and subsequently my life. A passion was ignited that eventually led me to study nutrition myself. I have now been practising as a nutritional therapist for over a decade.
