Just a few years ago I was a self-confessed online shopping addict. I would order cheap skirts, dresses and jumpers from Asos, Boohoo and Missguided, only to return most of what I’d received. I’m not a particularly ‘fashionable’ person and never have been. But the allure of new things enticed me into bad shopping and spending habits that I look back on with despair. And it wasn’t just clothes – candles, fairy lights, kitchen gadgets, technology, accessories… you name it!
The term used to describe this phenomenon is ‘fast fashion’ and although it reaches far beyond clothing, the fashion industry specifically is fuelling highly unhealthy habits that are having huge impacts on the planet, as well as the people involved in the manufacturing process.
