We all need clothes, there’s no denying that. But, have you ever thought about what your garments are made of? Or, what happens to them once you have decided you are finished with them? The sad reality is that our wardrobes are leaving our planet in peril and this is largely down to fast fashion. Our quick rate of consumption means the items we buy are often cheap, which is reflected in the quality, and a result of jumping on the latest trends. Once we decide we’re finished with these pieces – perhaps they’ve fallen apart, or are no longer in style – we discard them without a second thought, only to buy into next season’s ‘must-haves. It’s a vicious circle – but, one that can be broken. We have to start rethinking our choices, whether that’s by finding ways to make your clothes last longer, buying second-hand, or renting fashion pieces. We look into these solutions and discover the ways we can start to tackle the problem. After all, the clothes we wear really do have the ability to change the world.
