I was never someone others would call an animal lover. Sure, I like a dog as much as the next person, and had a mild obsession with dolphins when I was young. But I didn’t have posters of horses on my walls and I certainly didn’t consider giving up meat as many young animal lovers do. The key turning point for me was recognising that I was experiencing cognitive dissonance between what was I was putting on my plate, and the morals to which I held myself. Since that connection was made, my life has been changed in ways I never could have imagined possible. Veganism, for me, has been a journey that not only changed my diet, but altered the way in which I see the world and, consequently, changed my life. It prompted me to question everything, from where my food was coming from, to the consequences of the food choices we make, and ultimately my impact on the natural world.
