At 39, and coming off Tommy John surgery, Justin Verlander won his third Cy Young Award and was named the 2022 American League Comeback Player of the Year, becoming the first pitcher to win the award after not throwing a pitch the previous season. Verlander went 18-4 with a 1.75 ERA. He led the American League in wins, ERA, WHIP (0.83) and opponents’ batting average (1.83).
