Dunblane self build plots in demand

40% is the year-on-year increase in woodburning stove sales, according to the Stove Industry Alliance (SIA), an indication that consumers are taking measures to ease the impact of spiralling home heating bills. Sales of woodburning and multi-fuel stoves for April-June 2022 hit over 35,000 units, compared to 25,000 for the same quarter of 2021. The data is collated from all SIA members, which make up roughly 75% of all UK stove sales.

Kippendavie Group Trust has applied for planning for 44 new properties – including self and custom build homes – on green belt land in Dunblane. A community survey revealed 66 local residents were looking for a new house, with demand for bespoke homes high. Almost all respondents said they wanted to or were interested in building their own property, but were struggling to source a plot. The serviced plots model, growing in popularity in the UK, helps to mitigate these challenges.

SIDE RETURN EXTENSION IDEAS
Most terraced houses feature a strip of land down the side at the back, known as the side return. Extending into this is a great way to enlarge your home without eating into precious garden space (although lots of projects also build out at the rear). Here, Emily Batesmith is sharing her favourite side return extensions that maximise the potential of this often unused patio area
