More Birthday Cakes are made each year than any other form of celebration cakes, so with a Royal baby due to be born around the date this issue hits the shelves I have decided it is about time we had another
Birthday Cake themed edition, with something that can be adapted for everyone as we all have a special day to celebrate each year.

Amongst the suggestions for this month I was delighted to learn about one Dutch tradition of placing a baby’s clothesline in front of the house to announce a new arrival, and the sweet-toothed amongst us will be
pleased to find that when you visit the house custom says you will be treated with ‘Beschuit met Muisjes’ (rusk-like rounds of twice-baked bread topped with sugar-covered aniseed). The lovely design on page 56
was inspired by the tradition.

August 2013 More Birthday Cakes are made each year than any other form of celebration cakes, so with a Royal baby due to be born around the date this issue hits the shelves I have decided it is about time we had another Birthday Cake themed edition, with something that can be adapted for everyone as we all have a special day to celebrate each year.
