Archie gave lifejacket to others WHEN it was seen that there were not enough lifejackets for everyone, 77-year-old crew member Archibald Stewart refused one for himself – though he cannot swim.
Mr Stewart, of 6 Pensioners’ Row, Campbeltown, explained: ‘I would rather some young boy got away than me.’
The last to leave the stricken ship, Mr Stewart lashed himself to an anchor davit until the crew of the Moira threw him a rope.
