First urban ropeway project launches in Mexico

The Italian ropeway manufacturer, LEITNER ropeways, brings into operation the first urban gondola ropeway in Mexico this autumn. The almost fivekilometre long installation consists of two gondola lifts and will contribute toward solving the traffic problems in Ecatepec de Morelos, the most populous suburb of Mexico City.

Two gondola lifts run independently of each another and connect at one station where passengers can change lines between Via Morelos and San Andrés de la Cañada. There are a total of seven stops on the two stretches, which are 2.9 kilometres and 1.8 kilometres long respectively. The ropeways operate 17 hours a day and can move up to 3,000 people an hour. The ropeways also directly connect passengers to the public transport system.
