'HID' BULBS CAUSE MoT FAILURES'
Classic car enthusiasts who choose to switch to high-intensity discharge
(HID) bulbs to see better on the roads at night could find their cars unexpectedly failing the MoT. While vehicles over forty will be exempt from the MoT from 20 May this year anyway, those that still need the MoT or are choosing to continue putting their classic through the test may come unstuck by opting for HID bulbs. According to the MoT tester guidance manual, it is not permitted to convert existing halogen headlamp units for use with high intensity discharge bulbs after 20 May this year.
