GOV’T BUDGET CREATES NEW APPRENTICES
The lack of restoration apprentices in the UK could be boosted by a Government pledge to raise £3 billion a year through a new payroll levy. The money will be funded by businesses with a wage bill of more than £3 million through a 0.5% levy on company payrolls. It means the majority of restoration garages could benefit from the funding, while larger businesses like large franchised dealer groups foot the bill. Garages will be able to get their hands on money to fund new apprenticeships from April 2017. Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne announced the new levy during his Spending Review and Autumn Statement on 25 November. The Chancellor said that due to the £3m wage bill cut off, it would exempt 98% of employers in the UK.
