Tributes For Judy Blame

It’s with great sadness that Classic Pop reports pop stylist extraordinaire, Judy Blame, passed away suddenly on 20 February, aged 58. Boy George, Duran Duran and Björk are just some of the acts to benefit from the accessories designer and fashion guru’s unique vision over the years.

Born Chris Barnes, Blame worked in the cloakroom of Heaven nightclub as a teenager, and was rechristened Judy by Roxy Music designer Antony Price. He went on to create some of the most iconic looks in pop music – from the gold lamé jacket worn by Martin Fry for early ABC records to Duran Duran’s Wild Boys postapocalyptic outfits made of waste plastic rubbish. “He was a rare creature with a beautiful vision and undoubtedly key to sculpting the shape of style in the 80s”, said Nick Rhodes. “His indelible fingerprints are all over the pop culture that followed. As both an artist and friend, his attitude, instinct and humour were a potent combination.”
