BULLET VS. BLADE

KEEP THE 21-FOOT RULE IN MIND AS YOU TRAIN TO SURVIVE A

KNIFE ATTACK

It's important that you never underestimate an adversary with a knife.
One of the easiest methods for countering an attacker rushing towards you is to put something such as a vehicle between you and the attacker.

“…AN ATTACKER WITH A KNIFE CAN…REACH AND STAB A TARGET 21 FEET OR LESS AWAY BEFORE THE INTENDED VICTIM CAN DRAW AND FIRE HIS WEAPON…”

Sometimes a bad guy does bring a knife to a gunfight. It’s a mistake to underestimate the knife.

Many reading this will be aware of the phrase “The 21-Foot Rule,” but for those who are not, this refers to the tenet developed by Sgt. Dennis Tueller of the Salt Lake City Police that an attacker with a knife can normally reach and stab a target 21 feet or less away before the intended victim can draw and fire his weapon accurately to stop the attack. Of course, this applies not only to knives, but to clubs, hatchets, chains or other dangerous weapons.
