THE CLASSIC J-FRAME

MANY PEOPLE HAVE LONG DEPENDED ON SMITH & WESSON”S LINE OF SNUBNOSE REVOLVERS FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION
Thompson”s favorite belt holster for the J-frame revolvers is this DeSantis FLETC 2.0, which allows carry of spare ammo next to the holster. It is shown here with the S&W Model 360PD.357 Magnum.

”THE J-FRAME S&W REVOLVERS ARE COMPACT, DEADLY AND ELEGANT.”

The first time I handled a S&W Chiefs Special I was enamored with its small size combined with its lethality. In those days,.38 Special was considered a serious combat round. With the right ammo, it still is today.

The little revolver only held five rounds, but that gave it a cylinder of lesser diameter, allowing it to fit readily in a pocket. I got my first Chiefs Special, a used “flat-latch,” before I knew about pocket holsters. Initially, I loaded it with the old standard 158-grain round nose ammo and thrust it in a jacket pocket. At night, it was often under my pillow. I learned to shoot it adequately, though I could only afford to shoot 50 rounds from it every few months. That was over 50 years ago and for most of that time I”ve owned one or more Chiefs Special revolvers or one of its descendants.
