For decades, Kawartha Conservation has been promoting a healthy watershed through programs such as its Shoreline Demonstration Sites—naturalized spots that cottagers can visit for inspiration— and, since 2006, the Blue Canoe Program. (Teams of two paddle dock to dock, offering up tips for healthy waterfronts.) By now, the Blue Canoe “brand” has become a household name, says Holly Shipclark, the stewardship coordinator for Kawartha Conservation. “The team members say they sometimes feel like celebrities!”
