Dear Cottage Life

Take a close look at the picture on the bottom right of the back page (Weekender, Winter ‘16/’17). The cottager appears to be reading a book with some…choice language. Not that I’m offended—I had a chuckle. At least you know you have another reader (among many) who reads the entire magazine in detail.— Stephen Mills, Nine Mile Lake, Ont.

Your Letters

After Michelle Kelly’s Winter ‘16/’17 Editor’s Note about the Tragically Hip (“Courage, Cottagers”), readers proved that the Hip and cottagers stand hand in hand.

As I sit by the woodstove reading the Winter issue, I’m reminiscing about our Tragically Hip party at the cottage. We weren’t lucky enough to get tickets for the final show, even though we live in Kingston. So we told friends that we were having a party on our island to listen to the CBC broadcast. We strung lights and—young and old—we danced, sang, drank red wine, and talked about where we had seen the Hip and the number of times we’d seen them in Kingston. The campfire blazed, the loons cried, and we swam in the dark, watching the constellations reveal themselves one star at a time. The whole thing was quintessentially Canadian. It was awesome. —Graeme Smith, Kingston, Ont.
