Northern Escapades mini-putt brings the fun, big time, to cottage country all summer

Location Bracebridge, Ont.

Name game Marilyn Rothdeutsch and her husband, Bill, who both grew up in the area and opened the course in 1992, rejected a few mehs before settling on Northern Escapades. “We didn’t want ‘Cottage- Country Mini-Putt’ or ‘Muskoka Mini- Putt,’ “ says Marilyn. “This sounded adventurous and fun. It just seemed to fit. But people get the name mixed up. They call it ‘Northern Escapes.’ Which still fits.”

Backstory “In 1992, there wasn’t much to do around town,” says Marilyn. “It was my husband’s dream. He said, ‘I think a mini-putt would do well here.’ “ Bill had a background in construction, and Marilyn in customer service. They both had a thing for miniputt— they still play when they go on vacation. “Wherever we go, we’re mini-putting.”
