21 ways to have fun on the water

Tired of Marco Polo? Up your splash game with new activities, trendy gear, and expert tips for young and old

1] Update your floaties

Flamingos are stuck in 2016, like Pokémon Go and clown sightings. Get yourself a huge Popsicle.

Play on, playa

Bring on the water games! We asked John Jorgenson, a director at Camp Tawingo in Huntsville, Ont., (and a man who knows his lake entertainment) for suggestions.

2] Gold Nuggets

What you’ll need Washed gravel or rocks painted bright gold; goggles.

To play Announce that the resident pirate has lost his loot in your lake. Goggled individuals or teams can scramble to recover the gold nuggets from the lake bottom. Depending on clarity and visibility of the water, the pieces may be small or large.

3] Duck Season

What you’ll need Rubber ducks or small floating toys; small scoop nets (optional).

To play Standing upwind, one person unloads the ducks into the swimming area. Then, it’s a scramble to see who can catch the most ducks in a specified amount of time. Each duck must be captured and brought to shore or to a designated “camp” before the next duck is hunted.
