Since the release of her 2017 album Dream Country, Sarah Darling has become one of the most popular visitors to the UK. Last year, the Iowa native decided to make her new album on this side of the pond. In this exclusive diary for Country Music, the singer takes us on a road trip across the British Isles, from writing room to recording studio to concert stage…

As told to Douglas McPherson. Photos by Sarah Darling

The biggest reason I wanted to make Wonderland in the UK is that my husband, James, is English. I also wanted to work with English writers and producers to get that Londonmeets- Nashville feel. What was fascinating is that what I’ve written here is completely different to what I would have written in Nashville. The experience of getting on trains and Ubers felt like a big adventure that I wanted to take people on. So some of the songs are about that road trip, being here in the UK, seeing new things and the wonder of all that.
