The impressively prolific Dale Watson didn’t release any new music in 2018, but that break from recording hasn’t dulled his edge or wit on Call Me Lucky. Now splitting his time between Austin, Texas and Memphis, Watson recorded the album at Sam Phillips Recording Studio and the spirit of classic Sun Records permeates the experience. WS Holland, who played drums for Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash, lends his sticks to The Dumb Song, a track carried along with that gentle rockabilly bounce that Cash and The Tennessee Three first perfected.
