Taking tonight’s inspiration from an afternoon spent marvelling at highly-tuned choristers being put through their paces at the local cathedral, Midland’s famous harmonising has rarely sounded so enriching. Evoking the spirit of vintage Eagles, the trio’s religious attention to vocal detail has to be heard to be believed. Listen to Midland at the top of their game – and the band somehow shrugs off acute road weariness and homesickness to hit peak performance – and it feels like their peers have been left floundering in a cruel game of catch up.
