THE DEAD SOUTH
Canada wins again as The Dead South hit the road with their twisted bluegrass and a new album primed for 2019
Hail from Saskatchewan, Canada For fans of Old Crow Medicine Show, The Devil Makes Three, Colter Wall
The Dead South (with Nate Hilts in jacket). Contrary to appearances, they’re not from the 1880s
Back in 2012, Nate Hilts and Colton Crawford probably didn’t expect their idea to form a rock’n’rollinfused bluegrass band would bring them much in the way of success, neither having ventured into the genre before. Six years and some nearincessant touring later, The Dead South have grabbed the attention of millions, becoming unlikely stars of the country scene along the way.
The Canadian four-piece released their debut studio album, Good Company, in 2014, fusing the traditional elements of bluegrass with rock influences, and wrapping deceptively upbeat songs around dark and violent lyrics. Seems they hit upon a winning formula – audiences keenly embracing their twisted tales of liars, cheats and murderers.
