Tradition dictates that we announce the winners our annual awards within the first issues of the year. The magazine's critics make up the jury that gives prizes for the most interesting new performances to be seen on Italian stages and recognize artists who have made a tema for themselves abroad. The 2017 prize categories include "Dancer of the year", "Best Contemporary Production", "Best newcomer", "Italian Best Production", Choreographer of the year" and "Lifetime Achievement". So get ready to find out who the winners are!
Here you'll find interviews with the biggest names in dance such as Aszure Barton, who discusses her first creation for the La Scala Theatre Ballet in Milan and Hugo Marchand, Paris Opera Ballet's hottest superstar.
We celebrate what would be Rudolf Nureyev's eightieth birthday by reflection on his historical impact as pop icon as well as ballet legend. We also meet Sasha Gusov, the portrait photographer well known in the dance world for his coffee table book "The Bolshoi. London 1993-2016".
In this issue you'll find selected news items as well as reviews from around the world including Prix de Lausanne, French choreographer Maguy Marin's new creation from the stage in Paris and the Mariinsky Ballet's 'new' "Paquita" from Baden-Baden. From the Italian scene the restating of "24 Preludes" by contemporary choreographer Roberto Zappalà and "Von" by Daniele Albanese, the La Scala Theatre premiere of Heinz Spoerli's "Goldberg-Variationen" and the Rome Opera Ballet in "Suite en Blanc" by Serge Lifar and "Pink Floyd Ballet" by Roland Petit.
