PLANT POWER
Women who consume higher amounts of protein, especially from plant-based sources, develop fewer chronic diseases and are more likely to be healthier as they age, according to a new US study. Middle-aged women are almost 50 per cent more likely to be healthier as they get older if they eat plenty of beans, nuts and other animal-free forms of protein rather than meat. “Notably fewer” cases of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and brain and mental health decline were experienced by women who ate the most fruit, vegetables, bread, pulses and pasta.
