Food for thought

I was delighted to see the article by John Gregory-Smith on the food of Gaza in the October issue [p102]. Well done for reminding us all that Gaza is home to many people who share a rich heritage and love making good food for family and friends. Thank you for inspiring us with food that looks and sounds delicious – and for offering a small glimmer of what life is like behind the walls and blockades: it’s clearly not a life of luxury.
While I appreciate you can’t turn your magazine into a political platform, I was disappointed not to find any explanation about why the situation there is the way it is. I feel it’s an opportunity missed to bring a better understanding of the dreadful situation to your UK audience.
However, the message is clear that many living in Gaza struggle and are in need of help, and many readers will, I hope, support the World Food Programme thanks to John’s feature. Perhaps some will also be inquisitive enough to ask more questions, do a bit of research and get a broader message.
