SARDINES RULE OK
The health benefits of eating oily fish for its omega-3 fats are well known, but now there’s even better news. A major new study in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings medical journal has shown the strongest link ever between two types of omega-3 fats (EPA and DHA) found in oily fish and a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and heart attack. In fact, the researchers recommend consuming 1000-2000mg of these fats per day to reap the full benefits, which equates to an 85g serving of salmon, herring, tinned sardines or mackerel. A fine excuse for a regular smoked salmon and scrambled egg breakfast, we reckon.
