WHY IT’S GREAT Ensconced in leafiness, halfway up the Malvern Hills on the Worcestershire/Herefordshire border, this place has long been celebrated for its views and food. The composer Elgar, a local boy, found inspiration in the glorious hills and a mural of his face adorns the hallway of the Georgian hotel, which is partway through a £2.5 million revamp. The restaurant’s look is tasteful in a muted way, with wallpaper inspired by local flora and fauna – but you only notice it after you’ve stopped gaping at the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
