A SLICE OF MY LIFE
INSPIRING WOMEN
My mum is a great cook and made classic Irish food such as lamb stew and fish pies. We always laughed that if everything else went to hell, spaghetti bolognese could still be on the table in minutes. My grandmother was also a fantastic cook. Not long before she died, I asked her what she’d had for dinner the night before and believe it or not she said, “I had nothing in the house, so I made a soufflé.” I like to think I have a little bit of her kitchen confidence.
FOOD BLOGGING VS THE 9 TO 5
At 19 I was working as an entertainment reporter, writing stupid showbiz gossip segments about celebrities. I hated it. My boss would be really pissed off because I’d spend my time looking at food blogs. My 21st birthday present was a camera, and I started taking pictures of the food I cooked. At the time, only a handful of food blogs had photographs, so it was definitely part of what kicked things off.
