In the same way that the gas versus charcoal discussion can become quite heated when you’re talking barbecues, the gas versus electric debate can be divisive among coffee roasters.
Founded over 10 years ago to fill the coffee void on Wales’s west coast, Bay Coffee Roasters sits firmly in the electric camp – the Ceredigion coffee company does all its roasting using electricity.
“We’re one of the few coffee roasters to use this method; the amount of energy used to roast the beans is tremendous and we wanted to do things the right way without having to use carbon offset schemes,” explains owner and supreme coffee geek Duncan Gray.
