We’ve been driving Audi’s new A1 Sportback, that’s sprouted an extra pair of doors, along with Volkswagen’s new executive car, the CC, which is an updated version of the Passat CC. Don’t mention the Passat part though, VW bosses will issue 100 lines as punishment if you do. Ford’s Ranger pick-up has been thoroughly put through its paces both off and on-road, and Chevrolet’s surprisingly good Aveo has been tested on UK roads for the first time. Kia’s new Optima and the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer complete the list of hot new cars tested this month.
Toyota’s Avensis goes head to head with the Peugeot 508, and BMW’s new 1 Series meets its old adversary, the Audi A3 Sportback in this month’s duo of twin tests. There’s also On Test reports of the frugal Ford Fiesta ECOnetic and the Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDTi equipped with its new 99g/km low CO2 engine.
And with March’s registration plate change almost here, we give you 12 tips to get you the best deal when buying your new 12 plate motor. If you’re contemplating buying a new car, don’t do anything more until you’ve read our essential guide.
Elsewhere, Roger Stansfield has been out driving Kia’s one million dollar electric fuel cell vehicle in Korea, and we look at ways of making your car look snazzier if you can’t afford to replace it with a 12 plate car. This issue, we look at alloy wheels, and how it can give your old car a fresh new look.

diesel, green cars, electric mag

The UK’s leading magazine for diesel, green cars, electric, hybrids and alternative fuelled vehicles, full of advice on tech, mechanics, future plans. great photos inspiring reviews Reviewed 21 August 2022

I like the way it has evolved over the years

I have been buying it in print and online since the early 2000s and I like that it always has focused on the economy end of motoring, or us cheapskates if you like. It has moved to covering hybrids and electric cars which is good, and hasn't forgotten its roots - diesels.

It's a friendly, down to early mag and Doctor Diesel is still the best bit.
