Skoda is tackling Ford and Volkswagen head-on with its new Scala, a replacement for the lacklustre Rapid. Standing out on the January 2019 issue of Diesel Car & Eco Car, we have the first details on the Czech company’s new medium five-door hatchback. There’s also news of the brand new Mazda3, the updated Mitsubishi L200 and the latest news in the world of diesel power.

Our testers have been putting SEAT’s new seven-seat Tarraco through its paces, as well as the pretty Peugeot 508 SW and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. We also test Ford’s Tourneo Courier and the Mazda CX-3 1.8 diesel on UK turf. This month’s battle sees the Kia Stinger face the Peugeot 508. Which one wins in the style stakes and takes the crown for best new fastback? We also welcome the Citroën C4 Cactus and Skoda Karoq to the Our Cars fleet, and say farewell to the Dacia Logan MCV Stepway, Suzuki Swift Hybrid and our Kia Stinger.

We’ve got some fun features this month, including a ferry good adventure in Volvo’s XC40 – our current Car of the Year – and we also meet a reader that owns one of the original MPVs – a London Routemaster bus.

In Eco Car, our testers have been to Seoul to drive the new Kia e-Niro, and we’ve tested the updated Toyota Aygo in a rather lairy shade of purple. There’s also news of the Toyota Corolla saloon, BMW iNext concept, Audi e-tron GT and Kia’s Soul EV.

There are also all your favourites including Doctor Diesel, Marketplace, The Extra Mile, Buying, Maintaining and Selling, and the most up-to-date data section in the business.

diesel, green cars, electric mag

The UK’s leading magazine for diesel, green cars, electric, hybrids and alternative fuelled vehicles, full of advice on tech, mechanics, future plans. great photos inspiring reviews Reviewed 21 August 2022

I like the way it has evolved over the years

I have been buying it in print and online since the early 2000s and I like that it always has focused on the economy end of motoring, or us cheapskates if you like. It has moved to covering hybrids and electric cars which is good, and hasn't forgotten its roots - diesels.

It's a friendly, down to early mag and Doctor Diesel is still the best bit.
