Letter from the Editor

Jane Czyzselska

As we went to press we learned that the London Assembly had asked Sadiq Khan, London’s new mayor, to set out how he proposes to fight homophobia, bigotry and extremism, and promote community cohesion in the capital. The motion came in the aftermath of the devastating attack in Orlando (see p16 and p72) and the Brexit result (p28), which has given rise to an increase in hate crimes across the UK. As we continue to reel from the daily attacks, terrorist or otherwise, in locations all over the world, community is more important than ever, and that means an inclusive community that recognises our differences and our commonalities. In DIVA this month we celebrate LGBTI women regardless of age, race and ability, or whether you are trans or cis. We’re stoked to feature Ruby Tandoh as our cover star (p64) and whether you’re a dedicated foodie like Ruby, or thinking of starting a family (p76), or bisexual and looking for love and community (p36 and p60), we’ve got something for you in our August issue. I’d also like to thank all those who voted for me to be on the Pride Power List 2016. It’s an honour and a privilege to edit Europe’s best magazine for lesbians and bi women.
