TRAVEL TRENDS

LGBT TRAVEL TRENDS ARE CHANGING

A World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) report produced in conjunction with the leading International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) has found that there has been a general upturn for the LGBT travel market, and that it is now more difficult to define our preferences. Written by Peter Jordan (genctraveller.com), the report finds that many of us choose to venture beyond traditionally popular gay destinations, and younger generations increasingly defy labels, for example. Social progress remains important across the spectrum however, and a Deloitte survey of approximately 8,000 millennials found that 87% valued companies with a socially responsible attitude. Whilst destinations such as New York, Vienna and Argentina have done a great job of celebrating diversity and successfully targeting the LGBT community, some 70 countries worldwide still pose legal difficulties for us. It’s a stark reminder that it remains important for travel businesses and destinations to continue to push for LGBT rights – and that we as travellers must support those who do.
