DNA: What is a “scrum” and why did you choose this as the title of the film?
Poppy Stockell: Technically a scrum involves players packing closely together pushing against the other team in an effort to gain control of the ball. I chose the word for the title because it’s a great visual reference to the experience I wanted the audience to have through watching the film. I wanted the audience to not only walk a mile in the footy boots of these boys, I wanted them to know what it means to represent the Sydney Convicts, to play gay rugby, to be a part of the locker rooms, the line-outs; to feel the energy of the scrum. The word is also kinda sexy and I wanted the film to be sexy, too.
