NATURAL PORN KILLERS

THE LATEST JAMES FRANCO FEATURE, KING COBRA IS BASED ON THE REAL-LIFE MURDER OF PORN MAGNATE BRYAN KOCIS. HIS GRISLY DEATH AT THE HANDS OF RIVALS IS A DARK TALE OF OBSESSION, GREED AND JEALOUSY THAT EMBROILED PORN STAR BRENT CORRIGAN.

IN DNA #115 (AUGUST 2009) WE PUBLISHED A FEATURE RECOUNTING THE EVENTS. WITH KING COBRA DUE FOR RELEASE THIS MONTH, WE THOUGHT IT TIMELY TO REPRODUCE AND UP-DATE THIS FEATURE BY ROB MARSHMAN.

On January 24, 2007, fire fighters entered a burnt-out home in Dallas Township, Pennsylvania. On the living room floor was a near-decapitated corpse bearing what the coroner would later identify as 28 stab wounds. The body, with over 80 per cent third-degree burns, was beyond recognition. It appeared obvious early on that the fire had been deliberately lit to obliterate evidence of homicide. Dental records identified the victim of the brutal crime as successful gay porn entrepreneur, Bryan Kocis.

Police from three federal and state agencies would go on to mount a four-month operation to catch the murderers. In the investigation’s course they uncovered a series of events and characters that would not seem out of place in a Hollywood Confidential exposé: rival film studios poaching stars, high-stakes money, award ceremony skulduggery, wire taps, underage sex, clandestine meetings at nude beaches and a cast of characters with delusions of grandeur would all play their part in a sordid tale of jealousy, greed and murder.

The victim, Bryan Kocis, was born May 28, 1962 and raised in Larksville, Pennsylvania – a typical small town. By all accounts he had a normal childhood. He was interested in photography and as a teenager won a national photographic competition. He graduated from the Rochester Institute Of Technology and worked as a biomedical photographer until the ’90s.

Growing dissatisfaction with this role prompted Kocis to found a number of business ventures, all of which failed. In December 2001 he declared bankruptcy. Oddly enough this led to the founding of a less legitimate but wildly successful business in the booming area of gay porn.

Beginning with internet porn, his company morphed into the Cobra Video Studio, which specialised in the production of movies starring “barely legal” teen models involved in bareback sex. He rode a wave of success to become a mini mogul but still ran his empire from a suburban home in Pennsylvania. At the time of his death he owned several high-performance luxury cars and had accumulated a significant fortune.
