There are a further 21 million refugees, and 10 million stateless people. A staggering 34,000 people are forced to flee their homes every day due to conflict or persecution.
In the last few years, millions of people have arrived on Europe’s southern shores from the Middle East and Northern Africa to escape war, persecution and hunger.
