7.7m viewers make Doctor Who the 7th most watched show of Christmas week

What topped the Christmas TV ratings? Plus a round-up of 2015’s biggest hits...

After a season in which Doctor Who’s average viewing figure slipped to six million viewers, there was some good ratings news for the Doctor at Christmas.

Doctor Who’s Christmas episode had 7.69 million viewers in 2015, down from 8.28m at Christmas 2014 – but it certainly wasn’t the only show to see its audience drop...

The Husbands of River Song had an official BARB rating of 7.69 million viewers. While this makes it the lowest Christmas Day rating for Doctor Who to date (down from the 8.28 million Last Christmas achieved in 2014), this proved to be a strong figure in the context of the week’s programming as a whole. Over on ITV, Doctor Who’s main competition was Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs at Christmas, which had a consolidated rating of 3.69 million (plus another 0.26 million on ITV+1).
