CELEBRATING THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME

The dawn of the Peter Capaldi era saw another logo variation for the show and for DWM, while both Capaldi and his co-star Jenna Coleman featured on more stripped-back DWM covers to mark their interviews in Issues 477 and 482 respectively. Issue 480, meanwhile, sported a cover that celebrated all the TV incarnations of the Master – an image that complemented the one for all the Doctors used for Issue 460.

The spring of 2015 marked another milestone: ten years since Doctor Who’s return to television...

“It’s amazing how quickly the time has flown by, and how it now barely seems like Doctor Who was ever away,” smiles Tom Spilsbury. “The tenth anniversary of the show’s return was an odd one to celebrate, given that it came comparatively soon after the 50th anniversary. I didn’t want it to misrepresent Doctor Who’s longevity – it wasn’t ten years old, it was 52! I’ve made this point before, but DWM never refers to ‘the new series’ or ‘the old series’ when talking about the two distinct runs; as far as we’re concerned it’s all one TV show. In the end we decided to do one cover for each of the four Doctors since 2005 for Issue 485.” 2015 saw some more artwork covers for the magazine from digital illustrator Gavin Rymill.
