Well, it’s certainly been a busy month in the world of Doctor Who. A month of departures and arrivals, not least here at Doctor Who Magazine. And in one of those bittersweet coincidences that happen from time to time, mere days after we welcomed the announcement of an exciting new Doctor, we found ourselves bidding a sad farewell to a much-loved companion.

They might be separated by 50 years, but the Doctor Who débuts of Deborah Watling and Jodie Whittaker are milestones on the same road. There has been much talk about what a seismic shift the Thirteenth Doctor represents – and by comparison, mild-mannered Victoria Waterfield might seem a less radical contender in the show’s hall of fame. But wait. Let’s think about Victoria for a moment.
