Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen

What is Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen? Fan lore tells us this was Douglas Adams’ first pitch for the series – a rough, single-page treatment that, once rejected, he refashioned as a potential Doctor Who movie, before eventually recycling it as a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy book.

But that, it seems, was just scratching the surface of the truth. There was, hidden away in the library of St John’s College, Cambridge, an almost complete Douglas Adams Doctor Who story, and we didn’t even know it.

“When I first saw the treatment of The Krikkitmen”, says James Goss, who was given the box by the library, “I was all, ‘I know what that is. I think you’ll find it’s [the third Hitchhiker’s novel] Life, the Universe and Everything.’ But when I read it, I found out it was so much more.
