The Third Doctor Adventures: Volume Five

Tim Treloar and Katy Manning are back for two more instalments of The Third Doctor Adventures.

John Dorney’s Primord is a sequel to the 1970 serial Inferno and features the return of ex-companion Liz Shaw, while The Scream of Ghosts, by Guy Adams, sees the Doctor investigating a strange extraterrestrial signal.

As usual, Katy reprises her TV role as companion Jo Grant, while Tim recreates the late Jon Pertwee’s performance as the Doctor. They’re joined in The Scream of Ghosts by John Levene, making his first Third Doctor Adventures appearance as UNIT mainstay Sergeant Benton.

There are also two new cast members, both stepping into established roles.

In Primord, Daisy Ashford plays Liz, the role originated by her mother, Caroline John, who died in 2012. Jon Culshaw, meanwhile, appears in both stories as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, taking over from Nicholas Courtney, who died in 2011.

“It’s quite an extraordinary feeling, as you can imagine,” says Katy. “All these voices are so strong in my memory. Tim has now become Jon [Pertwee] totally.

I’ve got hairs standing up on my arm at Jon Culshaw. And then in comes Daisy, who just happens to be the daughter of the gorgeous Caroline John, who I adored. We had a lot of giggly times together, and Daisy has so many things about her that remind me of her mother – although she is, of course, her own unique self as an actress.
