OUT OF THE TARDIS

Doctor W ho M agazine’s TARDIS tin contains 120 tantalising, taxing and trivial questions. Each interview ee m ust answ er a random selection…

It’s 5.00pm on the dot and Jacqueline King has just walked through the door of a W im bledon café. “Look at that, I’m exactly on tim e!” she says proudly. “I hate being late.”

As well as great tim e-keeping, Jacqueline – or Jax to her friends – clearly has a zest for life, an enthusiasm that only heightens when we m ention her recent work w ith Big Finish. In 2018 Jacqueline returned to play Donna Noble’s m um Sylvia on audio for the first tim e, as part of The Tenth Doctor Chronicles and Lady Christina: Series One. This year she has reunited w ith the rest of her W ho fam ily – Donna (Catherine Tate) and W ilf (Bernard Cribbins) – for The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Volum e Three.

“People who appreciate Doctor W ho are som etim es kind enough to say, ‘I’d love the Noble fam ily to com e back,’” says Jacqueline. “But obviously, know ing how TV works, it’s always got to m ove forw ard and change so there seem ed no possibility. So when Big Finish cam e, I thought, ‘This is the chance for it to happen, just in a di erent stratosphere, as it were.’”

Jacqueline’s Big Finish work pre-dates Sylvia Noble. “I’ve been really lucky, I’ve done quite a lot for them over the years. I did m y very first production a while ago w ith Derek Jacobi [in 2003’s Unbound: Deadline]. On the strength of that, I got to know [executive producer] Nick Briggs and he very sw eetly brought m e back to other franchises.”
