BBC Audio’s Michael Stevens has had a busy year, adding to an already impressive catalogue of new and reinterpreted Doctor Who adventures.

Books are brilliant. But they seem to reproduce at an alarming rate. There never seem enough hours to discover new literary friends, let alone touch base with old ones. And while a physical tome’s an amazing sensation, you lose your place while out jogging and the constabulary takes a dim view of speed-reading at the wheel on that long motorway journey.

That’s where BBC Audio is your friend, slaking that thirst for Time Lord travels on shiny discs or strands of 1s and 0s, delivering adventures directly into the digital device that fits your lifestyle!

A bleak hour during Doctor Who’s golden anniversary in 2013 was the collapse of AudioGO, the spoken-word publisher partly owned by BBC Worldwide. Yet from AudioGO’s ashes, BBC Audio’s phoenix burns brightly, tended by range editor Michael Stevens. “Thankfully, restarting the Doctor Who line after the hiatus was a pretty smooth process,” says Michael. “Each year’s worth of publishing is mapped out well in advance, with titles selected and cast, studio time booked, artwork commissioned or licensed, and then all the less-interesting but highly essential back-office work knuckled down to.”

About Doctor Who Magazine

On the 50th anniversary of The Power of the Daleks, Doctor Who looked back as well as forwards. While an animated reconstruction of the Second Doctor’s début was being prepared, work began on new episodes to be broadcast in 2017. Inside this issue, you’ll find exclusive interviews with some of the people behind the next series and the recent spin-off Class, the story behind the acclaimed exhibition of Target Books artwork and a ringside seat at the Power of the Daleks launch event. This is the essential guide to the worlds of Doctor Who.
