Kerblam! was written by Pete McTighe, a lifelong fan who was delighted to earn a place on the 2018 series. But the full extent of his involvement with Doctor Who goes much further…
A murderous Voc from the 1977 classic The Robots of Death.

Doctor Who has influenced so much in my life,” says Pete McTighe. “When I was a kid it made me want to read and it made me want to write stories. The first stories I ever wrote were Doctor Who stories. It made me imaginative and fired my creativity. It’s part of my DNA, part of why I’m a writer. So to now find myself part of the series still feels really odd… and amazing.”

Pete admits that, when he was announced as part of the Series 11 writing team, he was relieved. “We’d been keeping the secret for such a long time,” he says. “My partner and my mum knew about it and that was it. Everyone was quite gobsmacked when they found out, because they know what this show means to me. I mean, moving to Cardifff may have been a bit of a hint but it’s surprising how many people didn’t twig. And for those that did suspect I basically just lied to them for ages. Some of them are readers of this magazine so I’ll take the opportunity to apologise now!”
