IN 1938, A JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TESELECTA ANDROID assumes the form of Wehrmacht officer Generalmajor Zimmerman to access the office of Chancellor Adolf Hitler at the Reich Chancellery in Berlin. Intending to bring Hitler to justice for the crimes of World War II, the Teselecta’s miniaturised time-travelling crew members suddenly realise they’ve arrived too early in the Nazi Führer’s timestream. Before they can rectify their mistake, the TARDIS crashes through the window.

On board are the Doctor, Amy Pond and Rory Williams, together with Amy and Rory’s troublesome friend Mels, who is accidentally shot by Hitler when he tries to defend himself from the Teselecta. Once Rory has locked Hitler in a cupboard, everyone is surprised to see the fatally wounded Mels regenerating like a Time Lord, transforming into the woman they already know as River Song. But at this point in her timeline, River is a brainwashed psychopath responding to conditioning she received as a child from Madame Kovarian. She now attempts to fulfil her orders by poisoning the Doctor with toxic lipstick.
