THE DOCTOR, HAUNTED BY THE DEATH OF CLARA, steps out of a teleport tube into an ancient stone castle. He is relentlessly pursued by a hooded figure, but as it reaches out its talons the Doctor shouts out loud that he is scared of dying. The figure freezes. Suddenly hidden gears turn and all the levels of the castle rotate like a huge puzzle. The Doctor eventually deduces the creature stopped when he made a confession – he is being subjected to an elaborate interrogation.

When the figure next threatens the Doctor, he jumps out of a window and narrowly escapes drowning in the sea beneath, finding it littered with skulls.

In a central garden the Doctor finds a spade and, though briefly threatened again by the creature, digs until he hits stone. A scrawled message reads ‘I AM IN 12’.

About Doctor Who Magazine

The Doctor’s own people, and his home planet, were introduced in 1969 as a major chapter in the series’ history came to an end. Five decades later, the Time Lords and their devastating war with the Daleks are still essential parts of Doctor Who’s mythology. This special publication analyses every story set on Gallifrey, reveals previously unseen images from the making of the episodes and interviews key players in the Time Lords’ fascinating story.
