Dolls House World  |  Issue 358
The gorgeous drapes are open to the promise of a new day. Morning sunlight filters through the windows casting soft shadows over the unmade bed. The romantic French chateau is the perfect place to relax in at the start of the New Year.
Ah, if only. But that’s the beauty of miniatures, creating scenes that allow us to escape - whether it be warmer climes or sumptuous rooms, or both.
Chloe Fletcher wanted to create a “soft and dreamy” room and she’s certainly done that. The boudoir featured on our cover draws you in and invites you to dream.
When you see wonderful creations like this it’s easy to imagine that they’ve been made by an artist working in a huge well-equipped studio, far removed from the restrictions of everyday life that most of us have to contend with.
But that’s why we love to talk to the artists to discover the reality. Chloe told us she works on a desk “crammed in the corner of our living room between the fireplace and the TV.” Her storage area includes “the top of the fridge and half of a wardrobe”.
She also confided: “I learned to upholster the way I learn most things, I just have a go and learn from my many, many failures.” Lessons there for all of us as we head into the promise of a fresh New Year.
Lots of projects inside this issue, from lovely little calendars to put together to a fireplace made from egg cartons. So what are you waiting for, have a go and have fun failing.
